NAMIBIA

Space,
as far as the eye can see.

Namibia is one of the most sparsely populated countries on earth. Red dunes, salt pans, rocky landscapes and a coast where the desert falls into the sea. Good gravel roads make it the best country for a self-drive journey, remote corners are reached by light aircraft.

What makes it special

What makes Namibia

Camel thorn trees in Deadvlei before red dunes

Sossusvlei and Deadvlei

Some of the highest dunes in the world surround a clay pan where dead camel thorn trees have stood for centuries. Most beautiful in the first light of day.

Black rhinos in Etosha

Etosha

A vast salt pan whose waterholes draw elephants, lions and rare black rhinos in winter. Ideal for safaris at your own pace.

Shipwreck on the Skeleton Coast

The Skeleton Coast

Fog, wrecks and seal colonies on a coast where the Namib meets the Atlantic. Inland, desert elephants live in the river valleys of the Kaokoveld.

Milky Way over the Namib

The night sky

Hardly any light, dry air and clear nights. The NamibRand Nature Reserve was Africa's first Dark Sky Reserve, many lodges offer nights under the open sky.
